What to expect when you attend worship at First United Methodist Church
Traditional Worship
People worship God in the historic sanctuary that has stood at the corner of 3rd Avenue and 2nd Street since 1880. The service includes traditional hymns, with some familiar favorites, choirs, piano and pipe organ, a sermon with real life application and prayer. Ushers and greeters are present to assist people. Printed bulletins, hymnals and Bibles in the pew guide worshipers through the service. Despite the traditional setting, coats, ties and "Sunday best" are not expected.
Contemporary Worship
People worship God in the Wilder
Christian Life Center, a multi-purpose space used for
fellowship, recreation and worship. The Praise service
is guided by a worship leader and Praise Band featuring
guitar, bass, drums, keyboard and vocalists. Music includes
the latest in Christian praise songs and some new arrangements
of great old songs. Words and images are projected on
a big screen over the stage. Biblically based messages
with contemporary life application are presented each
week. The atmosphere is relaxed, so "come as you are."
Cross Roads Café
Come and enjoy a cup of coffee and some breakfast foods in the Cross Roads Café before or after the Sunday school hour. This is a great place where people from all of the worship services gather to mingle and fellowship
Holy Communion
The sacrament of Holy Communion (Eucharist or Lord's Supper) is celebrated each first Sunday of the month in all worship services. In the United Methodist tradition, "all who love Christ, repent of their sin and seek to live in peace with one another" are invited to partake. Church membership is not required.
Childcare
Excellent childcare with a capable, friendly staff is available for infants through 4-years-old during all worship services.
Praise Kids
Following "Lessons for Young Disciples", an object lesson
time for kids during the Praise and Worship service,
kids K-2nd grade are dismissed for PraiseKids, a worship
experience designed especially for them.
