"Do this in remembrance of me."
Here at Rome First, we celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion every first Sunday of the month in all of our worship services, and we also celebrate it at various special times throughout the Christian year. Worship is at the heart of the church's life, and since the beginning, at the heart of Christian worship is communion. The early Christians gathered around the table frequently to share in the Lord's Supper, and the New Testament suggests that it was central to their worship and life together. As United Methodists and spiritual descendents of John Wesley, communion holds a special place in our life with God and with each other. Communion was central to the early Methodist societies, and Wesley taught that the Christian should participate in the table as often as possible. Wesley taught that communion was a "means of grace," a way through which we experience and take part in God's grace and love. As United Methodists, we understand communion to be primarily a communal act; that is, it is done within the context of the faith community gathered as one. We practice an open table; all are welcome to partake in the bread and cup. You do not need to be a member of Rome First or even of The United Methodist Church to participate. All are welcome who desire God and seek to know God's grace for themselves. We invite you to join us one Sunday on the first of the month and to take part in the sacrament and to experience God's love for yourself through the bread and cup. As the psalmist tells us: "Taste and see that the Lord is good" - Psalm 34:8
