Music Ministry
Music is an important part of our worship at Rome First. From the singing of psalms, hymns, and praise songs, to the singing of anthems and extended works, the goal is the same, to give the best we have to the musical art through worship. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, saw the importance of singing in church and offered instructive words as to how best to sing hymns in worship. We remain true to that tradition today.
Children's Choirs
At Rome First we have three children's choirs that meet each Wednesday during the school year. Our chlidren learn basic hymns, anthems, praise songs, and musicals to lead in worship at various times throughout the church year. These choirs learn music for both the Traditional and Contemporary services.
Cherub Choir (4 & 5 year olds) - 6-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Celestial Choir (1st & 2nd grades) - 6-6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Carol Choir (3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th grades) - 6-6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
Youth Choir
The Youth Choir, like our Children's Choirs, sings throughout the church year in both the Traditional and Contemporary services. The Youth Choir at Rome First has participated in the National Cathedral Festival in Washington D.C. and this past summer completed a choir/mission trip to the Bahamas. The Youth Choir is open to all youth in grades 7-12. The Youth Choir meets on Sunday afternoons from 5-6:00 p.m.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir is the worship choir for the Traditional service at Rome First. This choir strives to present music appropriate for each Sunday throughout the church year. In addition to singing the anthems, and other special music each week, the Chancel Choir also presents extended works for Advent/Christmas, Holy Week/Easter, and on other special occasions during the year. The Chancel Choir is open to anyone adult age 17 and up. This choir meets on Wednesdays from 7-8:30 p.m.
Praise Bands
There are two praise bands at Rome First. The adult praise band (coveredindust) rehearses on Wednesday from 7:30-8:30 p.m. and prepares the music fo the Contemporary Service on Sunday. This group not only leads in worship each week, but also participates throughout the year in concerts and other special programs in the church and in the community such as Jesus in the Park.
The youth praise band (3Day Weekend) is composed of youth in grades 7-12. This group meets from 5-6:00 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. This group leads worship each week at Sunday evening Breakaway for the youth. They also prepare music for special worship services in the church and in the community.
Roman Chimes
The Roman Chimes is the handbell choir at Rome First. This group is composed of adults from the church, the community, and some college students from the Rome area. They meet each Wednesday from 5-6:00 p.m. and play in worship each month and for other special occasions during the church year.
